Publications
My work sits mainly at the intersection of perioperative diabetes management and kidney protection during cardiac surgery, built up across a PhD, several years as a clinician-scientist, and now the students I supervise. Below: the two research lines the work falls into, the PhD students producing it, and a full chronological record of everything published.

Research lines
Diabetes and glucose regulation
Perioperative management of GLP-1 receptor agonists, other diabetes types, glucose monitoring technology, and screening for undiagnosed diabetes before surgery.
Top 10 publications
Perioperative kidney protection
Why cardiac surgery injures the kidney, and what — including SGLT2 inhibition — might prevent it. The core of the MERCURI programme (see Research).
Top 10 publications
More research lines (including perioperative outcomes more broadly) will be added here over time.
PhD students
The students I supervise or co-supervise, and what they’ve published so far.
Robert van Wilpe
Diabetes mellitus subtypes and glucose control in the perioperative setting.
Lars Snel
SGLT2 inhibition and kidney protection in cardiac surgery.
Marjella Eijmael-Oosterom
SGLT2 inhibitors, GLP-1 agonists, and cardiac surgery-associated AKI.
Ayla Stobbe
Preoperative fasting, insulin resistance, and perioperative drug management.
Vera de Winter
Joining the kidney-protection research line.
